Keeper’s Furniture

What we do, and How we do it.

MATERIALS.

Everything we do starts with the wood we use to build our pieces. We work closely with our suppliers to track down the highest quality, sustainably sourced timber from Europe and the US. We buy our European Oak directly from the sawmill here in the UK, hand selecting the best pieces to ensure our furniture is beautiful, strong and stable, to be enjoyed for a lifetime.

DESIGN.

Our designs are centred around showcasing the inherent natural beauty of the timber, as well as the craftsmanship used to create our pieces. We do this by utilising joint details such as dovetails, mortice and tenons and curved braces, which can be seen and admired in the finished piece. This creates a harmony and connection between the maker, material and the end user of our pieces.

BUILD.

In our Workshop, we use no computer guided machinery, just traditional hand tools and simple woodworking machinery. This means our pieces are truly handmade, by the hands of a skilled craftsperson. Every joint is individually and precisely fitted, allowing each joint to reach its full potential in adding strength to the piece. Everything is built in our beautiful Timber Framed Workshop, which you can learn more about here.

SUSTAINABILITY.

With properly managed forest resources, timber truly is the most sustainable material for building furniture. This means sustainability is at the heart of our business model. All of our timber is FSC certified and our processes ensure nothing is wasted. We use all parts of every piece, by starting with cutting larger pieces, for bigger pieces of furniture, then using the smaller pieces for our wine racks. Everything that is left over, including the sawdust is used to heat our workshop. This process ensures that no timber ever goes to waste. The workshop itself is also built from many recycled and salvaged materials. Learn more here.
