A bit about Keepers Furniture, and a bit about me.
I started Keepers Furniture 5 years ago, as I have always loved wood, and I wanted it to be my life.
Like many people, I have had many jobs and careers in my life. I started out by studying Chemistry and worked as an Analytical chemist. 13 years ago, I was working in the laboratory by day then spending all of my free time working in the workshop, building guitars and experimenting with furniture, patiently learning the craft of bringing my creations to life from rough pieces of timber. This dedication came easily to me and revealed to me that this was what I was supposed to be doing with my life.
After this realisation I left the laboratory and the UK behind me, heading to India to work in an instrument workshop where I built my first acoustic guitars. I am a nature lover and was lucky enough to travel widely in the Himalayas, falling in love with the mountains. I also worked as a carpenter in Malaysia and Indonesia, building stilt houses and furniture and learning that quality building can be done with simple tools - a realisation that still to this day makes me appreciate the efficiency and accuracy of the more modern machinery I have in my workshop now.
Although I studied Chemistry, I have a strong natural inclination for Engineering. coming from my childhood, where I spent a lot of time building treehouses and structures of all sorts in the woodlands around my home. I went on to be a Construction Engineer in London, working on some very large projects and later an Electrical engineer. During all this time I continued to build guitars and furniture in my workshop and developed my craft further.
Around 6 years ago, I decided to quit engineering and to build my own workshop from scratch on the land where my family have lived for 4 generations, Keepers Lodge, from which Keepers Furniture takes its name. You can see the photos showing the whole building process here. I also worked as a self employed joiner, building everything from doors and windows, to kitchens and bathrooms, funding the building of the workshop.
For the past 4 years or so, I have been focussed on designing and making bespoke furniture, as well as developing beautiful products such as my wine racks. I love connecting with people over people’s ideas for their own spaces and building furniture for them that they can enjoy for the rest of their lives. Learn more about my design philosophy here. My focus now is to create things that people really connect with, because they are made by a real person, who loves making them and wants them to be enjoyed.
Please feel free to get in touch through my contact form about any enquiries you may have, I am always happy to hear people’s thoughts about my work or their own projects.
